To Commissioner Tang: Seeking your apology for your comments on the obscenity laws

Dear Commissioner Tang,

Now that both Ms. Gillian Chung and Mr. Edison Chen have come forward and apologized for their roles in the photo scandal and have taken responsibility for their actions, it is time for you, as chief of police and a role model for all Hong Kong citizens young and old, to hold a press conference to apologize for your inaccurate comments on the obscenity laws in early February.

Sending an subordinate (Mr. Wong) to clarify your comments (and in doing so, contradicting them) makes it appear that you are trying to eschew responsibilities of your inaccurate statements. For someone in your position to comment wrongly regarding Hong Kong laws and regulations and then insist on its accuracy via far-fetched logic in subsequent brief interviews is highly irresponsible. We surely do not want our children and future generations to follow in your foot-steps - we should instead educate our children to take responsibility for their actions.

Commissioner Tang, as chief of police, you are a much more prominent role model than Ms. Gillian Chung and Mr. Edison Chen will ever be. A sincere apology from you in person regarding your inaccurate comments will be a gift to the people of Hong Kong - one that we expect, one that we will be proud of, and one that will restore our trust in the Hong Kong Police.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
-Concerned citizen
